So you’ve got an awesome idea for your blog, but you’re going to need a platform to launch that blog on. Looking at many blog case studies, these blogs started on a standard platform like the ones below and many of those blog case studies still use that platform.

Picking the right blogging platform really depends on what you plan to publish on your blog. To start with, if you’re looking to set-up a small low-maintenance blog for posting short text, image or video content, then Tumblr is the right option for you. This platform brands itself as a “micro-blogging” network and many major blog case studies have found a home on it. Furthermore, Tumblr is also partly social network – meaning that readers of your blog can “re-blog and like” content, which will in turn drive more traffic to your blog.

Google’s Blogger platform provides a slightly more feature intensive service for your blog. This platform allows for more in-depth customisation of your blog’s layout and style, whilst also offering a more comprehensive set of tools for writing and editing blog content. Blogger will take a little more work to get set-up than Tumblr, but leaves you more space to grow.

Finally, WordPress is by far the most feature heavy and popular blogging platform on the market. WordPress is used by many major news outlets and comes in two forms. WordPress.com provides an easy to set-up and fully hosted service for smaller blogs. On the other hand, WordPress.org allows users to download and install WordPress to use on their own webserver and in turn create a fully flexible website. In whichever form you choose, WordPress provides the most professional level of service

Those are the three major blogging platforms and the services used by most blog case studies. However, the market is littered with many other blogging platforms – the likes of Squarespace, Jekyll and others all provide a fantastic service and are worth your consideration. The amount of possibilities when it comes to setting up a blog are endless, meaning you really have no excuse not to set-up that blog and start writing.
